Sr Mechanical Designer, Lakeville MN

The Senior Mechanical Drafter/Designer creates accurate, production-ready 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks. This role works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to develop and improve designs for fabricated and welded components.

Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Drafter/Designer is responsible for preparing detailed working drawings of parts and assemblies that accurately and completely communicate the design requirements and the design intent to the manufacturing floor. This role requires expertise in SolidWorks (CAD) and the ability to translate engineering concepts into accurate technical models and drawings.

Location: Lakeville, MN

Salary: $85,000-$115,000

Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday

Job Type: Full-Time - Exempt

Job Requirements

· Education: Associate's degree in Computer Aided Design or equivalent experience.

· Experience: Minimum 10 years of drafting/design experience.

· Knowledge of steel fabrication techniques including laser cutting, forming, and welding.

Technical Skills

· Proficient in SolidWorks CAD modeling, sheet metal, assembly, and drawing creation.

· Understanding of ANSI documentation standards.

· Understanding of AWS welding standards.

Physical Demands

· Regularly required to sit; occasionally required to stand, reach, and handle materials.

· Ability to operate on the production floor as needed.

Roles & Responsibilites

· Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for parts, assemblies, production fixtures, and shipping arrangements using SolidWorks CAD software.

· Structure assemblies to follow and document the manufacturing process.

· Produce three-dimensional models of parts and assemblies.

· Create drawings that accurately and completely depict functional relationships of parts and assemblies.

· Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or address production problems.

· Review and analyze sketches, drawings, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs.

· Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and customers to resolve design challenges.

· Prepare technical illustrations for manuals and publications.

· Operate in compliance with safety and quality standards.

· Work with manufacturing engineering and production floor personnel to identify and resolve design and production issues

· Continuously update and apply relevant knowledge.
