Island Power Plant (80 dB(A) @ 1m)
Advanced Exhaust Solutions was commissioned to design three hospital grade disk silencers, to operate in conjunction with a acoustic/thermally lined outlet pipe extension. This system yielded treated sound pressure levels well below 80 dB(A) at one meter. The customer also desired to have a lifting eye integral to the silencers, that would allow up to 1000 lbs. of equipment to be lifted during routine maintenance. Finite Element Analysis was utilized to ensure that the structural reinforcement of the silencer was sufficient to handle the external loading conditions, without adding unnecessary weight to the silencer. Due to the geographical location of the power plant, the customer required an outlet that would be unaffected by severe wind and rain. Advanced Exhaust Solutions was able to design a unique solution that would prevent rain (even blowing rain) from entering the exhaust system under any circumstance. To ensure a long, maintenance free service life, all exhaust piping components and accessories, external to the engine room were hot dip galvanized.

2000 kW Enclosure 54 dB(A) @ 7 m (70 dB(A) @ 1m)
Advanced Exhaust Solutions was commissioned to provide a silencer capable of attenuating a raw exhaust sound pressure of 120.7 dB(A) @ 1m to 54 dB(A) @ 7 m. This application required 50.7 dB of insertion loss to meet the specification and due to site constraints had to maintain a minimal footprint. AES engineers specified a class 9 (50-55 dB TL) rectangular silencer with structural square tube frame up-fitting, dual inlet connections (one on the bottom and one on the end) and dual outlets to keep regenerated flow noise well below the target treated sound pressure levels. The silencer was 144" long, 120" wide and 52" thick, weighing approximately 8500 lbs. Validation performed by the customer was able to show that Advanced Exhaust Solutions not only met the exhaust sound specification, but exceeded it, with a single silencer.

3000 kW Enclosure 85 dB(A) @ 7 m (101 dB(A) @ 1m)
Advanced Exhaust Solutions was commissioned to provide a silencer capable of attenuating a raw exhaust sound pressure of 117.9 dB(A) @ 1m to 71 dB(A) @ 7 m. This application required 16.9 dB of insertion loss to meet the specification. This target treated exhaust sound pressure level for this project was not incredibly stringent, however it did require the unorthodox use of a side inlet and outlet on a disk silencer. This inlet and outlet configuration typically leads to severely decreased acoustic performance, however AES engineers were able to configure the silencer to perform as required.

1500 kW Enclosure 71 dB(A) @ 7 m (87 dB(A) @ 1m)
Advanced Exhaust Solutions was commissioned to provide a silencer capable of attenuating a raw exhaust sound pressure of 127 dB(A) @ 1m to 71 dB(A) @ 7 m. This application required 40 dB of insertion loss to meet the specification. AES engineers specified a class 7 (40-45 dB TL) rectangular silencer, that in the words of the customer "easily met the spec".

1500 kW Enclosure 50 dB(A) @ 50 ft (73 dB(A) @ 1m)
Advanced Exhaust Solutions was commissioned to provide a silencer capable of working in conjunction with a OEM factory emissions module. The silencer was required to provide 30 dB of insertion loss at less than 5" of water column. The While emission module do a fair job of reducing exhaust sound pressure levels, they produce a treated sound pressure level that is dominated by mid and high frequency noise, especially in the 500 and 1000 Hz octave bands. This silencer performed exceptionally well, meeting the customers specification.
